A Taste of Merlot

A Taste of Merlot

UK Wine expert Jancis Robinson says 'Merlot tends to be noticeably lower in tannins and acidity than Cabernet, which makes it much more voluptuous to taste' & 'South Africa has already shown just how gorgeous an oak-aged Merlot ripened in a relatively warm climate can be'.

Merlot really is a crowd-pleaser. If you like smooth, silky and a little bit savoury - then you can't go wrong with this pack.

It is the most-planted variety in France and commonly used in Bordeaux Blends.

Org de Rac Reserve Merlot - The exclusive organic reserve range is grown on the south-facing slopes of Piketberg Mountain where specially selected vines yield grapes of great distinction. Thanks to meticulous cellar practices every wine in the range is an aristocrat in its own right. A feast of concentrated berry fruit flavours combines with undertones of cigar box, leather and rich vanilla. This wine needs time while all components harmonise into a softer more elegantly balanced wine.

Durbanville Hills Merlot - Colour: Dark ruby red
Nose: There is a concentration of rich sweet d fruit, with hints of Christmas cake and chocolate mint, followed by the sweet wood spices like vanilla and cinnamon .
Taste: Medium to full-bodied wine with sweet fruits on palate, rounded off with silky tannins and a full mouth feel that has a prolonged after taste.

KWV Classic Collection Merlot - This generous and vibrant Merlot shows upfront aromas of plum, mulberry and fruit cake with nuances of eucalyptus and cedary oak. The palate is accessible with indulgent tannins and a seamless finish.

Raka Barrel Select Merlot - Appearance: Deep ruby colour.  This juicy wine with red cherries, plums and a hint of mintiness on the nose carries the same character through on the palate, combined with spicy oak notes. This elegant and smooth wine has supple tannins.

Groote Post Merlot - Plum and mulberry flavours are prominent on the nose, supported by subtle hints of mint, resulting in a wonderful flavour spectrum. Fruit and acidity are well balanced on the palate and give this wine complexity and length.

Flagstone Poetry Merlot - This warm, rich ruby red wine shows great complexity on the nose. There is a mixture of dark red fruit, cigar box and mint aromas with well balanced wood. Sweet, spicy undertones give this wine great depth.
