A Taste of Merlot

A Taste of Merlot

UK Wine expert Jancis Robinson says 'Merlot tends to be noticeably lower in tannins and acidity than Cabernet, which makes it much more voluptuous to taste' & 'South Africa has already shown just how gorgeous an oak-aged Merlot ripened in a relatively warm climate can be'.

Merlot really is a crowd-pleaser. If you like smooth, silky and a little bit savoury - then you can't go wrong with this pack.

It is the most-planted variety in France and commonly used in Bordeaux Blends.

We have selected 6 elegant Merlots (all of which have been oak-aged), for you to explore the different regions of South Africa, from Stellenbosch to Darling, Paarl and Stanford

DEWAAL : Beautiful plum and spice flavours with dark fruit, rich on middle palate, with a smooth and lingering finish.

KLEINE ZALZE CELLAR SELECTION : An elegant wine that shows loads of soft red fruit and ripe plums on both the nose and palate. This is complemented by hints of spice and other savoury notes.

RAKA BARREL SELECT Deep, inviting colour. Spicy and sweet plum flavour that blends well with a firm tannin..

GROOTE POST : Berry and plum flavours are prominent on the nose, supported by a subtle hints of mint, resulting in a wonderful flavour spectrum. A juicy mid palate is supported by soft silky tannins and ageing in oak barrels.

NEDERBURG 56HUNDRED : Colour: Dark ruby red. Bouquet: Aromas of soft, rich fruit such as strawberry and blackcurrant with subtle vanilla oak in the background. Palate: A medium-bodied wine with attractive up-front fruit flavours and a soft, silky texture.

SPIER SIGNATURE : Ripe regal red. Ripe red and black berries, plums and an undertow of eucalyptus and mint. This Merlot has sappy fruit, mint and soft tannins.
