A Taste of Robertson

Ashton Kelder Chenin Blanc : A very crisp wine with flinty green characters on the nose and hints of fig and tropical fruits. The sweet middle palate and dry finish ensures a well-balanced taste which complements the bouquet.

Graham Beck Brut NV : Light yeasty aromas, limey fresh fruit on the nose and rich creamy complexity on the palate. The exceptionally fine mousse contributes the freshness and finesse. Enjoy well-chilled with caviar, oysters, shellfish, carpaccio, chicken and even a nutty dessert or ice-cream - or on its own any time!

De Wetshof Bon Vallon Chardonnay : Soils rich in limestone and broken mountain rock on De Wetshof's site-specific vineyards allow this wine to emit optimum varietal expression. An unwooded wine, Bon Vallon has a brisk and clean freshness leading into a wide spectrum of classic flavours including citrus, wild flowers and grilled nuts, with a nuanced minerality on the aftertaste.

Robertson Winery Merlot : Rich, dark red colour with ripe punchy plum flavours, sweet black cherry and a velvet finish. Delicate wood does not mask the ripe fruit. Enjoy now with roast chicken, beef, lamb, pasta and steak.

Thunderchild : This classic red blend was created by using the ancient technique of fermenting uncrushed berries with native yeast from grapes. After aging for one year in French barrels, it was bottled without finings or filtration. A further 12 months bottle aging took place prior to release.

Weltevrede Cigarbox Shiraz : The colour is deep red. On the nose you get nuances of plum, violets, cloves and tabacco. The mid-palate is juicy with prominent flavours of black cherries and dark chocolate and a long finish of red berries and espresso. Very versatile with food. This Shiraz goes well with braai meats, steak, meaty pastas, smoked chicken, pork and of course Biltong.

A Taste of Shiraz

Nederburg The Winemasters : Colour: Dark ruby. Bouquet: Aromas of prunes and cherries, oak spice and a hint of dark chocolate. Palate: A rich, full-bodied wine with ripe plum, prune and dark chocolate flavours, a good tannic structure and lingering oak spice on the aftertaste.

Flagstone Dark Horse: Colour: Dark, rich plummy colour. Bouquet: Complex combination of white pepper, cigar box, mint and a concentration of dark fruit supported by subtle spicy undertones. Palate: The complexity on the nose flows over to the palate. The wine is big and round on entry with smooth and silky tannins that show well even though the wine is still young. Nice fruit on the back palate combined with a well-balanced acidity is responsible for a lingering finish and rounds off a perfectly balanced wine.

Raka Biography : Appearance: Clean Ruby Colour. Style: Dry. Bouquet & Palate: Spicy and savoury aromas on the nose. A complex pallet with pepper and wild herbs followed by Christmas pudding fruit and tobacco. Well rounded and elegant finish.

KWV Classic Collection : This vibrant Shiraz shows prominent fruit sweetness with aromas of cherry, raspberry and dried herbs. Undertones of cedar and dark chocolate are accompanied by a juicy and dimensional mid-palate with a well-integrated tannin structure and an elegant, lingering finish.

Perdeberg : A deep purple Shiraz, with dark plum, black berry and white pepper flavours. The intensity of the fruit is carried on to the palate where it fills one’s mouth with dark, sweet fruit, rounded off by a dash of well managed oak. The aftertaste is long and integrated.

Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection Barrel Matured : The wine shows the great density of flavour which is typical of our Shiraz. Initial aromas of ripe red fruits are followed by hints of spice. These flavours follow seamlessly on the palate with a bold, yet refined tannin profile that we believe gives the wine great ageing potential.

A Taste of Pinotage
Pinotage is certainly one of those, and now you can have a range of delicious Pinotages to explore and enjoy, and then come back to stock up on those that really work for you. Pinotage is a grape variety, with the vine itself being a cross of Cinsaut and Pinot Noir, bred in 1925 by Professor Abraham Izak Perold, with the first Pinotage vinified in 1941 by CT de Waal (of the De Waal farm outside Stellenbosch). The 'Pinot' part of the name derives from Pinot Noir but the ‘age’ suffix was taken from Hermitage, which is the name that Cinsaut was known by in the Cape at the time. It is strange connection, as Hermitage is, in fact, not a grape variety, but an appellation in the Northern Rhône in France, where the only red grape permitted is Syrah.

We have selected the royalty of Pinotages for you.

BEYERSKLOOF RESERVE : Colour: Intense dark red middle with a ruby red rim. Bouquet: Promising prune and blackberry aromas upfront with lively spicy/sweet cedar oak in the background. Tasting notes: Bundles of blackberry and prune flavours upon entry which combine well with the cedar oak aromas from Barrel maturation . A wine with good structure, excellent balance and a long juicy finish. This wine will pair well with any spicy curries or traditional Bobotie(SA curry) . Enjoy upon release, but will develop well for up to 10 years.

DEWAAL : DeWaal Wines is considered one of the top Pinotage producers of South Africa. Only 8 producers have received the Pinotage Top 10 award 6 times or more in the years the competition has been running. Our regular Pinotage is a medium bodied, fruity wine with flavours of ripe plums and cherries. Rich in flavour with a hint of French oak on the lovely smooth, finish.

THE DRY LAND COLLECTION : It is a known fact that bush vine Pinotage vineyards flourish under Dry Land conditions. The dark colour, explicit aromatics and juicy structure of this wine are testament to this traditional way of grape farming. On the nose this wine shows a distinctive spiciness with undertones of fresh cherries, prunes and strawberry cordial. The palate boasts ample fruit and charisma, with a luscious tannin structure which will evolve in taste and texture over the coming years.

FLAGSTONE WRITERS BLOCK : Colour: Enticing ruby red in colour. Bouquet: On the nose a wonderful, balancing of ripe, dark red fruit like mulberry and blackberry, with mocha chocolate and Indian spice, underpinned by a bewitching hint of bramble and mint. Palate: The palate is surprisingly rich, beautifully balanced and gives the impression of being elegant and powerful at the same time. Flavours of very ripe strawberry, cherry and darker blackberry are wrapped up in soft, comforting oak hints and a caress of vanilla and dark chocolate. Really long and luscious.

DIEMERSFONTEIN : On the nose distinct coffee, rich dark chocolate and baked plums. The ripe subtle tannins create a wine to be drunk very young.

NEIL ELLIS STELLENBOSCH : Vibrant colour with youthful hues. Bright aromatics, perfumed sweet fruit with spicy varietal notes. Textured palate with red cherry notes gives way to fine grained tannins neatly framed with attractive cedar-like undertones. A medium bodied wine with deceptive power.

  • Durbanville Hills Rhinofields Sauvignon Blanc : Serve on its own slightly chilled or with smoked haddock, tempura battered prawns, stir-fried calamari, asparagus quiche, ratatouille and Thai noodle salads.
  • Springfield Estate Life From Stone Sauvignon Blanc : Stones have no flavour that they impart on wine – they simply make the soil less. If there is less soil the vine produces more concentrated fruit, the same happens with old vines, also when vines are planted in high density. As the rock opposes the vine so does a nearby plant; and age limit growth and crop. Life from Stone has the good fortune to have all these three concentrating factors in its favour – thus the unmatched complexity of a great wine.
  • Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc: This vibrant, classically styled Sauvignon Blanc presents a brilliant lemon-lime colour. The nose is complex with an array of tropical fruit, ripe figs and gooseberries. These crisp flavours repeat in the mouth, along with a mineral character followed by a long fruity finish. The distinctive aromas support a wonderfully balanced palate, presenting purity of ripe fruit, coupled with a lingering harmonious finish.
  • Raka Sauvignon Blanc : Lively nose with sweet fruity aromas. Intense fruit on the palate with crisp mineral tones, well balanced with a soft finish.
